Tonight, I am catching a red eye flight to Atlanta, Georgia. Wheels-up out of Sacramento will be at 2235 (that's 10:35pm to you civilians), and then I will land at ATL at 0606. I am already starting to fall back into using military nomenclature because I am flying to Georgia to visit a buddy of mine from my days in the active-duty Army.
He and I were in the same unit in Germany, and then when our two-year tours in Germany were finished, we both happened to be sent to Fort Lewis, Washington. We were in different units there, but it was only a five minute drive across the post to get to his barracks and vice-versa.
We have kept in touch over the years with phone calls and Facebook, but this will be the first time I have seen him in 14 years!
He lives in Columbus, Georgia, which is right on the state line with Alabama. The big items on the itinerary this weekend will be to visit Stone Mountain, the Infantry Museum at nearby Fort Benning, and the infamous Civil War prison camp at Andersonville. I will take many pictures of course, and will be posting the best ones here.
