A simple comparison regarding "Handgate"

I have resisted posting about this subject because I thought the whole controversy is rather obsurd, but it seems that the Statist media isn't near to being finished talking about a couple of crib notes on Sarah Palin's left hand.

Reporters such as Andrea Mitchell and even Obama's Pillsbury Doughboy of a press secretary, Robert Gibbs, have raked Palin over the coals for daring to jot a few reminder phrases on the palm of her hand for a speech she gave at the Tea Party Convention in Nashville, Tennessee the other day. CNN was breathlessly reporting this news on the hour every hour the day after the incredible news broke that Palin had done this unspeakable deed.

One of the angles the Statist media kept using was that it was hypocritical for Palin to make fun of Obama for using a teleprompter at every opportunity when there she was with some crib notes on her hand. That argument is so idiotic on its face that it is tempting to just wave it off and move on. The problem is that in our current media culture, when absurdities like this go unanswered, you allow the Statist media to set the narrative, and the ignoramuses out there who live in their little hermetically sealed left-wing bubble begin to believe that Palin's oratory transgression was just as bad as Obama's dependence on his beloved teleprompter. Don't believe me? There are many people who think that Palin actually said that she could see Russia from her house, it was actually Tina Fey from Saturday Night Live who made that joke while impersonating Palin. Again, it's about setting a narrative.

So ask yourself, what shows more dependence on tools that can assist you in presenting your speech? What is the more significant crutch?

This?

Or this?

I rest my case.

Good Day to You, Sir

I guess Palin does not understand satire and she complains about telaprompters, what a hypocrite. Palin’s hand job just shows all of us what kind of dullard we are up against, I have not seen this since junior high. She is so perfect for "Fake News". WOW and some call her a leader….please.

Milton,
About what satire are you speaking? How is she a hypocrite? Nice use of the term "hand job." I would wager that you call people like me "teabaggers" too. You haven't seen what since Junior High? I'm sorry, what is this "Fake News" of which you speak?

Bottom line, this comment of yours is one big clusterf***.

Have a good one, Milton.

I'll take Palin's notes on a hand versus an entire speech on a teleprompter "hands down".

Well, if the aim is a Q&A format, as Palin's was said to have been. (Pre-screened questions mind), then a teleprompter would not have been very useful. The silly thing is that she had to write down "lower taxes". As if she might struggle to remember wether she liked higher of lower ones. For the delivery of longer speeches, and remarks, all serious politicians use teleprompters, as if allows them to be looking at their audience rather than than down at some notes, which is an alienating and unprofessional looking way to deliver a speech. Here are a couple of examples:

It's "silly" to write down little reminders so you don't forget? Then I'm silly, because I do it all the time. When I am teaching my students, I have often written down a couple of key points on an index card so I don't forget something; golly yes Donalbain, something I know very well already. Even in matters of history, which I know very well, I can sometimes get flustered by the crowd or because of a time crunch and blank on something. Apparently, you think it's "silly" to do something about it.

As for Obama and his beloved teleprompter, even his own supporters (including Vice President Biden) make fun of Obummer's dependence on the contraption. Obama was sold as this amazing orator, this gifted speaker. Hmmm, have you ever heard him stutter and stammer when his teleprompter malfunctions? Have you ever heard him stutter and stammer when he has had to speak off the cuff? Perhaps he should write down a few key points on his hand.

Once again, leave it to you to defend the indefensible.

I watched Obama at the discussion with the Republicans on healthcare, he was extremely eloquent, and did not write anything on his hand. But hey, if you think that using a teleprompter to make a speech is "indefensible", then you must think every single politician is "indefensible".

W.R. Chandler said...

I never said it was wrong to use a teleprompter; I said that Obama relies on one where other politicians don't. Once again, when your own Vice President is ribbing you for it, then perhaps you have a problem.

Nice cherry-picking, D. You never disappoint.

Donalbain said...

OK... which politicians dont use a teleprompter when delivering speeches?

W.R. Chandler said...

Have you read a single word I said?

Go have a chocolate milk or a popsicle or something.

I see... once again, you fail to answer a very simple question.

W.R. Chandler said...

I'm not answering red herrings that have nothing to do with what I said.

Try again.

I just find it amazing how the point sailed right over Donalbum's head. He rationalizes teleprompter, yet makes fun of Palin for a couple key words.

Face it, dude -- there's no comparison, and Obama clearly comes off as the dolt here, not Palin.
