If you are still using rabbit ears to get reception on your television, you will have to convert to digital by February of next year. If you don't go with a digital carrier like Comcast or Dish Network, you do have another option: a converter box.
In this faux public service announcment, watch this nice old lady show you how easy it is to convert to digital:
Good Day to You, Sir

So far, everyone I have heard from has had nothing but trouble with their convertor boxes. I am not encouraged that the darn things work. Certainly not a smooth transition, anyway.
I read in an article that some people received converter box certificates that were already expired so they were no good. Gotta love government efficiency.
My sister requested her converter boxes certificates, and they never came. Now they won't send her any more because they said she already got two.
And the beat goes on. . .
This isn't entirely accurate. You will still be able to get over-the-air signals (so in theory, your rabbit ears will still work), but they will be digital signals and you must have a digital tuner in your television.
I've used an outdoor antenna with my hdtv for over 18 months now and will still be able to after February.
