How do numbers make you feeeel?
Instructivist (see blogroll) has this Simpsons clip posted, and I just had to do likewise. As only the writers of the Simpsons can, they skewer the fuzzy self-esteem-laden "education" that many schools continue to dole out.
I felt that I was at a union meeting talking with the teachers who don't believe in homework, of excessive wrong answers, or grading in red pens. We need to stop raising a generation of pansies who can't be told they are wrong without requiring therapy to recover from their experience. Sometimes we make mistakes. The key is to learn from them. As teachers we probably won't teach students anything more valuable.
